Current project

Representations of Work in Iranian Photography, 1842-1979

The dissertation project studies images of work in the history of photography in Iran. The visual conventions inscribed in the photographs are to be historicized, whereby the focus on the subject of work will extend the semi-colonial context in which Iran's photographic production takes place to include intra-Iranian social contradictions. The leading interest of the study is directed towards possible subject positioning, which are established by the photographs examined, their conditions of production, their reception and their archiving.
