Assimilating lifestyle and educational themes to a documentary style, the Kulturfilm - a cinematic genre emerging during the Weimar Republic in Germany - naturalized nascent authoritarian ideology for mass audiences under the guise of the edification. 1933 represents a critical hinge when the underpinnings of the genre ceded to direct propaganda. Exploring these tendencies in the media production of the Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft during this critical period, this talk will examine where techniques of visualization in the electrical sciences relate to the Kulturfilm’s politics of the imaging of nature.
