Culture of remembrance in Bosnia and Herzegovina after the Dayton Peace Agreement

December 14 marks the 30th anniversary of the end of the Bosnian War. Two researchers from the University of Basel are examining how its consequences are perceived today, both locally and in the diaspora. One of them, eikones doctoral candidate Hella Wiedmer-Newman investigates the idiosyncratic and complex artistic and visual culture of remembrance in Bosnia and Herzegovina after the Dayton Peace Agreement.

In focus: Simon Tobias Bühler examines past societies in the Levant through mosaics

After studying Classical Archaeology and Art History in Basel, Simone Tobias Bühler completed his Master's degree in Cambridge. He has now returned to his former alma mater for his dissertation project, in which he is looking at mosaic paintings from the late antique eastern Levant, i.e. modern-day Jordan and Syria, between the 3rd and 8th centuries AD, and which he is carrying out as part of the "eikones" graduate program. The "In Focus" series presents the project in detail.
